Best Sources for Kids Dresses
It's National Dress Day! Founded by Ashley Lauren Kerr, it's a day to celebrate dresses! Thought we would join in the celebration and highlight some of our favorite childrenwear dress designers. I completely relate to Ashley. What we wear for milestone days and events really do create memories attached to what we wear. When I photo style shoots with children models oftentimes (when I can) I give the model the clothing they wore for a photo shoot, knowing that it's a milestone to be chosen for a editorial shoot or a magazine cover and its a great "keepsake" to have from the experience. Just for fun, I added a "milestone" dress memory - my first day of kindergarten. What. was. my. mother. thinking . . . I look like a bumblebee! (But, I still have fond memories of that dress and that day & I still have the photograph!)
As a Kids Lifestyle Photo Stylist, I have shopped for tons, & tons of dresses! It's still one of my favorite things to shop for. (As a Lifestyle Photo Stylist, I style all things relative to a kids life - so that includes wardrobe, decor/interiors/home, food & fun!) Also, the type of photo styling I do is more "lifestyle" styling rather than "high fashion", it's more of a relaxed style. But, I always "mix in" some whimsical high fashion pieces where I can! As you see from our Blog and my styling work, I style with a lot of bright colors and bold patterns (especially polka dots & gingham!) You know from my previous post about Janie and Jack, I have my eye on this Gingham Swimsuit for a shoot! Love that it's a match to the Gingham Dress in this Post. I'm sure these two pieces will make it into some spring or summer photo shoots. :)
When I'm hired for a editorial/magazine photo styling shoot, I mostly work in collaboration with the clothing supplier - where they send me clothing to use for the shoot in exchange for clothing credit. (or I am hired from the clothing supplier itself and of course, style their clothing line.) But, when I'm styling other shoots, I do shop for items to bring to shoots. (online and in person) I always like to bring lots of choices for the creative director of photo shoot to chose from.
